Low-profile carbon steel axle key stock cut for thin-wall rear go kart axles and many mini bike axles. The 3/16 inch key height is the shorter profile used where a full 1/4 x 1/4 key would bottom out in a thin-wall axle, making it a common replacement key for outlaw kart, jr sprint and mini bike rear ends. Sold as a four-pack of 2 inch sections.
Axle keys are a wear item. A rounded, mushroomed or twisted key lets the hub or sprocket walk on the axle, chews the keyway and eventually strands you in the pits. Carbon steel gives you the shear strength to drive the hubs hard while staying cheap enough to replace whenever you pull the rear end apart, so it is worth keeping a fresh set in the trailer.
